Social Media

I'm writing an article on social media and social networking for the 2010 issue of Creative Jewelry. What a vast topic this is! I've just read The New Rules of Marketing and PR: How to Use Social Media, Blogs, News Releases, Online Video, and Viral Marketing to Reach Buyers Directly by David Meerman Scott. My interest is in how jewelry designers can market themselves and their art online. I'll be interviewing the following designers: Lorelei Eurto, Heather Powers, Ronna Sarvas Weltman, and Leslie Rogalski. Stay tuned for more info!

  1. Sounds like a good round-up of jewelry folks! I just listened to a good podcast on craftypod about engagement marketing--basic info, but told in a very calm reassuring way.

  2. I think it's important to remember that social media has to be done with finesse. I know that I hate to be spoon-fed content or be subjected to blatant advertising sugar-coated in disguise as a blog. The best masters of social media are ones who consistently produce interesting, intriguing, and smart content. I also think it might be helpful to take a look at the latest Terms of Service for Facebook. They've claimed ownership over all media uploaded to the site. A scary prospect if in wrong hands.

    Good luck with your article!
